MAINLAND PLACES TO STAY
Many people, who come to Isle Royale, have a need to stay overnight on the mainland--either the night before their Isle Royale trip OR the night after their Isle Royale trip ---or both. Some people want to stay at a hotel/motel. Others want to camp somewhere. Some people are hoping to catch a few hours nap in their vehicle. What follows, is NOT an all-inclusive list of places to stay. It is simply a list of some of the places that you can possibly--and some links. Lodging and camping information frequently changes. You will have to contact these places yourself (and/or do your own research) in order to know the latest information regarding the places mentioned.

This was formerly called "Julie's Motor Inn". I have stayed here twice and I would stay there again. Please note, this place isn't anything fancy. It is like an old motor inn from the 1950s or 1960s--but it has had some upgrades and maintenance. The rates were very affordable.

Located essentially right next door to the Isle Royale National Visitor Center in Houghton (which is also the arrival and departure point for the Ranger III boat).

PLEASE NOTE: Except as permitted at official campgrounds, camping and/or sleeping in vehicles is strictly prohibited in parking lots, driveways, lawns, open spaces, and/or private property anywhere on the Grand Portage Reservation. This policy/law is strictly enforced by law enforcement personnel. This also means that you CANNOT sleep in your vehicle in the parking lot for the Voyager II or Sea Hunter III.
