First Aid & Safety
The backcounty of Isle Royale is a very remote place. Cell phones don't work on most of the Island (except for a few rare places that may get a CANADIAN CELL signal. Do you have an International Roaming Plan?). It may take many hours for you to send someone to find help. Then it could take many hours for the help to reach you. Thus, it is important that you (and all of the members of your party) know at least some basic First Aid and Safety information--and have some basic first aid and safety supplies with you.
I cannot possibly teach first aid and safety on this small website. The best that I can do is give you some links and point you to where you can get the information, training, and gear that you need.
I will begin by highlighting three "tabs" or "pages" on this website that you are now viewing. Check out the following pages where we discuss: 1) Planning Your Trip. 2) Drinking Water Issues, and 3) Emergency Devices. Then there is also the page you are currently viewing, 4) First Aid & Safety. All of those pages should help you to be better prepared for your trip and have a safer experience. On the "Helpful Links" page, there are also links to various Isle Royale weather forecasts.
The National Park Service Isle Royale website has an entire page devoted to safety--and links to other pages where safety is discussed. Here is the link to the NPS Isle Royale Safety Page.

If you go to YouTube, and search "Wilderness First Aid" and/or "First Aid" you will find lots of videos regarding those subjects. The same is true if you go to YouTube and Search for "Canoe Safety" or "Kayak Safety" and "Backpacking Safety". The more videos you watch, the more things that you can learn regarding these topics
